22nd - 23rd June 2024 saw the return of the Exeter Model Railway Exhibition hosted by the Exe Model Railway Society, at Matford Livestock Centre in Exeter, Devon.
The show featured no less than 47 visiting and clubs layouts and dioramas (a large selection of which are featured here) in a variety of gauges and scales, as well as a good selection of trade stands.

First impressions make up our memories. Details are the stuff of daydreams. Even though someone can't recall the precise details, the more there are, the richer the memory. I'm a 78 y.o. "realist" Diorama and Layout hobby artist. What always bothers me with so many otherwise fine layouts is the lack of PEOPLE. On layouts you'll see trains running with no one around. Dioramas that are without figures are simply 3D paintings or photos - literally lifeless. Your use of figures is what makes your works interesting standouts. I thank you for sharing. This is Scale Rail Ray back to the roundhouse.

I always watch your videos of model railway exhibitions because I know the filming is going to be if the highest quality 👍. Besides, I can't really visit them in person since I live in Australia now. Sometimes I find that these Model Exhibitions are so good - that you have too look twice to make sure it is just a Model & not the real thing!!! From your views - if you just have a quick look - you could mistake them for the real thing I find cos they are that good!!! Thanks for showing!!!🙂🚂🚂🚂

@@SDJR7F88 They are only demonstration layouts which are permanently there and have been for at least 5 years as they are the same ones that I saw the last time I visited that area. It's not my idea of a model railway exhibition and I wouldn't have thought it is what most people would call a model railway exhibition, it's more of an attraction rather an exhibition.
Very nice. I've built this same kit (Scalescenes canal/wharf boxfile kit) myself, and really enjoyed putting it together, and operating it.
Really was an interesting little build. Certainly a lot of operation potential is such a small space
@@SDJR7F88 Yes, I'm rather fond of small-scale/"micro layouts". As you said, theres a lot of operational potential, even in a small space, and I think micro layouts can be just as interesting as larger-scale layouts.

Honestly, can't remember of the top of my head sadly, as they are a friends models.
If anyone made a remake of the 'Titchfield Thunderbolt' Fry would be an ideal substitute loco for when the 14XX was derailed and out of service!!

Semley is excellence in railway modelling. I, too, model to P4 in Western Australia having been a Nine Elms and, later, Basingstoke fireman in the 1960s. We still had a 'Black Motor' or two then also!
